Most Mitsubishi models sold in the UK use the INVECS-III CVT automatic, and CVT faults have their own distinct set of warning signs. Whether your ASX, Eclipse Cross, Outlander or Shogun automatic is shuddering under acceleration, losing drive on a hill, hunting at steady speed, or carrying a transmission warning, we can find the fault and fix it.
Tell us what your Mitsubishi is doing and we will tell you what is most likely causing it. CVT and conventional automatic faults all covered.
Not sure if your Mitsubishi has a CVT or a conventional automatic? Tell us the model and year and we will confirm it.
* Timeframes are estimates based on typical jobs. Actual turnaround depends on the specific fault, parts availability and current workshop capacity. We confirm a firm timeframe when you book.

The INVECS-III CVT is the transmission type we see most often on Mitsubishi models arriving at our workshop. CVT faults present differently from stepped automatic failures, and they tend to worsen faster when ignored. Alongside CVT issues, the INVECS-II torque converter automatic and the Shogun Aisin unit each have their own patterns. The faults we see most frequently from Midlands Mitsubishi owners include:
We use Mitsubishi-compatible specialist diagnostic equipment to read CVT and automatic transmission fault codes before recommending any repair. You receive a fixed price for the exact work required, whether that is a fluid service, a component repair, a full rebuild or a replacement unit.
Block Exemption legislation gives you the right to use any qualified independent specialist for Mitsubishi gearbox repairs without voiding your manufacturer's warranty. Approved parts, qualified technicians, no compromise. The saving versus main dealer rates is typically significant on CVT work.

The enquiries we receive from Mitsubishi owners tend to follow a pattern. An ASX owner notices a judder when pulling onto a dual carriageway. An Eclipse Cross that seems to rev higher than it used to before the speed builds. An Outlander that feels sluggish going uphill and the CVT warning appeared briefly before clearing itself. What they are searching for is a gearbox service. What they actually need is a CVT diagnostic, because the symptom they are describing is a fault that is already developing, not a routine item that a fluid change will prevent.
At Service4Service Midlands, we work on Mitsubishi CVT and automatic transmissions every day. Routine Mitsubishi vehicle servicing is not something we offer. Gearbox and transmission repair is the entirety of what we do.
Every INVECS-III CVT repair or rebuild we carry out includes a full CVT fluid flush and replacement using the correct Mitsubishi-specified fluid. This is not optional. Using incorrect CVT fluid, or allowing the correct fluid to degrade, is the primary cause of the belt slip, shudder and pulley wear patterns we see on high-mileage ASX, Eclipse Cross and Outlander CVTs. The fluid specification matters on Mitsubishi CVTs more than on most other automatic transmissions.
If your Mitsubishi automatic or CVT is not behaving normally, ring us and describe what it is doing. In most cases we can give you a clear indication of whether it is a fluid issue, a belt or pulley fault, a solenoid problem, or something that warrants a full diagnostic before any repair is quoted.
All of the above are part of our diagnostic and repair process. If a CVT fluid service resolves the fault, that is all we charge. If the diagnostic identifies something more involved, you receive a fixed price before anything is started.
Call 01922 666376Engine repairs run alongside our automatic gearbox work across the Midlands. Engine management lights, timing chain and belt faults, turbocharger wear on diesel and petrol models, EGR issues, head gasket failures and DPF problems are all diagnosed and repaired well below main dealer cost.

Automatic gearbox and CVT repair is our only business. Here is what that means in practice.
The INVECS-III CVT, INVECS-II torque converter and Shogun Aisin automatic are transmissions we work on regularly. We carry the correct Mitsubishi diagnostic software, fluid specifications and parts.
Same approved parts, same standard of repair. The price difference comes from our labour rates, not from any reduction in quality. Price match guarantee on every job.
We find the fault, confirm the price, and only begin work once you have approved it. The £30 diagnostic cost is taken off your repair bill when you proceed.
We collect from home or work anywhere in the Midlands and return the vehicle once the job is done. No drop-off required.
Block Exemption compliant on every job. Approved parts, qualified technicians, your manufacturer's warranty intact throughout.

The questions Mitsubishi owners in the Midlands most often put to our technicians, answered plainly.
CVT shudder under acceleration is the most frequent complaint we receive from Mitsubishi owners with the INVECS-III automatic. It tends to present as a vibration or judder felt through the car body during light to moderate acceleration, often most noticeable between 20 and 50 mph. On the ASX and Eclipse Cross it is frequently first noticed when joining a dual carriageway or when accelerating out of a junction. The underlying cause is almost always one of three things: CVT fluid that has degraded and lost its grip properties between the belt and pulleys; belt wear reducing friction under load; or pulley surface damage caused by contaminated or low fluid. Unlike a conventional automatic fault, CVT shudder tends to deteriorate noticeably over a relatively short period. Early intervention keeps the repair cost significantly lower than waiting until the belt or pulleys require full replacement.
We diagnose and repair INVECS-III CVT shudder across the Midlands. A diagnostic starts from £30.
A CVT warning light on a Mitsubishi means the transmission control module has detected a fault it cannot correct automatically. Common triggers include a belt slip event logged by the control module, a fluid temperature reading outside the normal operating range, a pulley position sensor fault, or a solenoid irregularity in the valve body. In some cases the transmission will enter a limp-home mode with reduced performance. Do not continue driving with an active CVT warning light. CVT units are sensitive to fluid condition and load. Running the INVECS-III with a logged fault, even briefly, can accelerate belt wear and cause pulley surface damage that turns a manageable repair into a full CVT rebuild or replacement.
We read Mitsubishi CVT fault codes with specialist diagnostic equipment and carry out the correct repair. A diagnostic starts from £30.
It depends on what the fault is. A CVT fluid flush and filter service is a different job from a full belt and pulley replacement or a complete CVT rebuild. Our prices run at up to 60% less than a Mitsubishi main dealer for the same standard of work using approved parts. Every job gets a fixed price before we start. The £30 diagnostic fee is taken off the repair bill when you proceed.
Ring 01922 666376 with your model, year and a description of what the CVT is doing and we can give you a cost indication before you book in.
Most INVECS-III CVT faults are repairable. Full replacement is rarely the first or best option. Belt wear, pulley surface damage, valve body solenoid faults and fluid-related issues are all addressed through repair or targeted component replacement without swapping out the entire unit. The cases where full replacement becomes necessary are usually those where the belt has broken internally, where the pulleys have suffered severe surface damage from running with degraded fluid, or where the unit has been driven for an extended period with a known fault. We diagnose first, quote for the specific repair needed, and only recommend full replacement when repair is genuinely not viable. You will receive a clear explanation either way before any work begins.
In most cases, no. If the CVT warning is active, the transmission is slipping noticeably under load, the engine is revving freely without a proportional increase in road speed, or there is a whining or grinding noise from the transmission, driving further will make the fault worse. The INVECS-III is particularly sensitive to operating conditions when a belt or pulley fault is present. Belt slip events generate heat and debris that accelerates wear across the rest of the unit rapidly. If the car cannot be driven safely, vehicle recovery is available across the Midlands.
No. Under Block Exemption legislation you have the legal right to use any qualified independent specialist without affecting your Mitsubishi manufacturer's warranty. Approved parts must be used and the technicians must be qualified. We satisfy both on every job. This applies whether your Mitsubishi is within its original factory warranty or covered by an extended plan. A Mitsubishi main dealer is not required to keep that cover intact, and on CVT work the cost difference with a specialist is typically substantial.
On INVECS-III CVT models including the ASX, Eclipse Cross and Outlander petrol, CVT shudder under acceleration caused by belt wear or fluid degradation is the most common fault we diagnose. CVT slip under load, where engine revs climb without a corresponding rise in vehicle speed, is the second most frequent pattern and is usually a sign that belt grip has reduced beyond the point where a fluid service alone will resolve it. Fluid-related faults account for the majority of early-stage CVT failures across all Mitsubishi models; using the correct Mitsubishi-specified fluid at appropriate intervals prevents most of them. On the INVECS-II torque converter automatic in older Outlander and Shogun Sport variants, torque converter shudder and delayed engagement after cold starts follow the same pattern seen on other torque converter units of that generation. On the Shogun Aisin automatic, shift quality issues under towing or off-road loads are the most common complaint.
