The Xtronic CVT fitted to most Nissan models sold in the UK has a specific and well-documented set of failure patterns. Whether your Qashqai, Juke, X-Trail or Micra automatic is shuddering under acceleration, revving without gathering speed, showing a CVT warning, or losing drive on a gradient, the fault is identifiable and fixable without going anywhere near a main dealer.

Describe what your Nissan is doing and we will identify what is most likely causing it. Xtronic CVT and conventional automatic faults both covered.
Xtronic CVT faults get worse the longer they are left. A £30 diagnostic is the right starting point.
* Timeframes are estimates based on typical jobs. Actual turnaround depends on the specific fault, parts availability and current workshop capacity. We confirm a firm timeframe when you book.

The enquiries we receive from Nissan owners follow a consistent pattern. A Qashqai owner whose CVT has started to feel different on the motorway, a low vibration when accelerating that was not there six months ago. A Juke that hunts slightly at a steady 40 mph. An X-Trail that revved higher than usual when pulling onto a roundabout last week. A Micra whose CVT warning light appeared and cleared itself on a cold morning. All of them search for a CVT service. Most of them have a fault that is already developing.
At Service4Service Midlands, Nissan CVT repair and reconditioning is part of our daily workload. We do not carry out routine Nissan vehicle servicing. Automatic and CVT transmission repair is the entirety of what we do.
Every Xtronic CVT repair or rebuild we carry out includes a full CVT fluid flush using NS-2 or NS-3 Nissan-specified fluid as appropriate for the generation of unit fitted. The fluid specification on Nissan CVTs is particularly critical. NS-2 and NS-3 are not interchangeable with generic CVT fluid, and using the wrong specification is one of the most common causes of premature belt wear and pulley damage on Qashqai and Juke CVT units. We use the correct fluid every time as a non-negotiable part of every repair.
Call us and describe what your Nissan is doing. In most cases we can give you a clear steer on whether the fault points to belt wear, a fluid condition issue, a solenoid fault or something that needs a full diagnostic before a repair cost can be confirmed.
All of these are covered as part of our CVT diagnostic and repair process. If a fluid service resolves the fault, that is all we charge for. If the diagnostic identifies something more significant, you get a fixed price before any repair work starts.
Call 01922 666376Alongside CVT and automatic gearbox work, Service4Service Midlands handles Nissan engine repairs. Engine management lights, timing chain faults, turbocharger wear, DPF problems and head gasket failures are all diagnosed and resolved well below main dealer rates.
We cover all Nissan petrol and diesel engines including the 1.0 and 1.2 DIG-T petrol three-cylinders, the 1.3 DIG-T four-cylinder in the Qashqai and Juke, the 1.5 and 1.6 dCi diesel units, and the 2.3 dCi diesel in the Navara and NV400.

CVT and automatic gearbox repair is what we do. Here is what that means in practice.
Current Xtronic and earlier JF011E CVT units are in our workshop regularly. We stock the correct NS-2 and NS-3 fluid specifications and carry Nissan-compatible diagnostic equipment as standard.
Same approved parts, identical standard of repair. Our labour rates are where the saving comes from. Price match guarantee on every job.
We identify the fault, confirm a fixed price, and only begin work when you have approved it. The £30 diagnostic is deducted from the repair bill when you proceed.
We collect from home or work anywhere in the Midlands and return the car when the job is finished. No drop-off arrangements needed.
Block Exemption compliant on every job. Approved parts, qualified technicians, manufacturer's warranty fully intact throughout.

The questions Nissan owners across the Midlands most commonly ask us, answered directly.
Shudder during acceleration is the most common Xtronic CVT complaint we receive from Nissan owners. It presents as a vibration through the body or seat, typically between 20 and 60 mph, and is often most noticeable when joining a dual carriageway or pulling out of a junction at moderate throttle. The root cause on the majority of Qashqai and Juke CVTs we see is degraded CVT fluid that has lost its friction and lubrication properties between the steel push belt and the primary and secondary pulleys. When the fluid degrades, the belt cannot maintain consistent grip across the pulley faces under varying load, producing the shudder. Physical belt wear is the second most common cause. A fluid service using the correct NS-2 or NS-3 specification is the starting point. Where belt wear is confirmed, belt replacement alongside a full fluid flush is the correct repair.
We repair Xtronic CVT shudder on Nissan models across the Midlands. A diagnostic from £30 is the right first step.
The CVT warning light on a Nissan means the transmission control module has logged a fault it cannot resolve internally. Common causes on Xtronic units include a belt slip event, a fluid overheat condition recorded by the temperature sensor, a pulley ratio sensor fault, or a solenoid irregularity in the valve body. Once the CVT warning is active on a Nissan, the transmission may also limit available drive power to protect the unit. Do not continue driving with an active CVT warning. The Xtronic is sensitive to belt and pulley condition. Running it with a logged fault accelerates wear across the belt, pulley faces and secondary shaft bearings, turning a repairable fault into a full CVT replacement if left long enough. A diagnostic from £30 identifies the specific code and the correct repair.
Yes, significantly. Nissan specifies NS-2 fluid for older Xtronic generations and NS-3 for more recent units. These are not interchangeable with each other or with generic CVT fluids. NS-2 and NS-3 are formulated specifically for the friction characteristics of the Nissan steel push belt and pulley interface. Using the wrong fluid, or a non-specified substitute, reduces the friction coefficient between the belt and pulleys, which directly causes belt slip and accelerates pulley surface wear. A large proportion of the CVT shudder and slip faults we see on Qashqai and Juke models arriving at our workshop can be traced to incorrect or degraded fluid. We stock both NS-2 and NS-3 and use the correct specification on every Nissan CVT job.
The cost depends on the specific fault. A fluid flush and filter service is a very different job from a full belt, pulley and bearing replacement or a complete CVT rebuild. Our pricing runs at up to 60% less than a Nissan main dealer for the same standard of work and the same approved parts. We provide a fixed price before starting. The £30 diagnostic fee is credited against your repair bill when you proceed.
Call 01922 666376 with your Nissan model, year and a description of the symptoms for an indicative figure.
Short distances may be possible but the fault will worsen with continued use in the vast majority of cases. If your Nissan Xtronic CVT has an active warning light, is shuddering noticeably during acceleration, is losing drive under load or on hills, or the engine is revving significantly higher than normal without a matching increase in speed, stop driving it. Belt slip events generate heat and metallic debris inside the CVT that rapidly accelerates pulley surface damage. A fault that might require a belt replacement and fluid service at an early stage can become a full CVT rebuild or replacement in a relatively short period of continued driving. Vehicle recovery across the Midlands is available if the car cannot be used safely.
Most Xtronic faults are repairable. A full replacement is rarely the best first option. Belt wear, pulley surface wear, valve body solenoid faults and fluid-related slip are all addressed through targeted repair or component replacement without replacing the complete unit. Full replacement becomes necessary when the steel push belt has broken internally, when the primary or secondary pulley has suffered catastrophic surface damage, or when the unit has been driven for a significant period with an unaddressed fault that has caused secondary damage throughout. We diagnose the fault first, quote for the specific repair required, and will only recommend a complete replacement if the unit is genuinely beyond economic repair. You will receive a clear explanation before any commitment is required.
On current Xtronic CVT models including the Qashqai, Juke and X-Trail, shudder under acceleration caused by CVT fluid degradation or steel push belt wear is the fault we see most frequently. CVT slip under load, where revs climb sharply without a proportional increase in road speed, is the second most common pattern and indicates belt grip loss beyond what a fluid service can correct. On earlier JF011E CVT units in the first-generation Qashqai and X-Trail, belt and pulley wear at lower mileages than the current Xtronic generation, alongside whining from the secondary pulley bearing, are the most common presentations. On all Nissan CVT models, using the correct Nissan-specified fluid at the appropriate service interval is the most reliable way to prevent the majority of these faults from developing in the first place.
