Suzuki automatics use Aisin torque converter units in the Vitara and S-Cross and a CVT in the Swift and Ignis. Both develop recognisable fault patterns with mileage. Whether your Suzuki automatic is slipping under acceleration, shuddering at speed, showing a warning light or struggling to hold drive, we can identify the fault and repair it well below Suzuki dealer rates. Note: the Suzuki Auto Gear Shift (AGS) is a robotised manual gearbox rather than a conventional automatic and is not covered here.

Tell us your Suzuki model, year and what the automatic is doing. Aisin torque converter and CVT faults both covered across the Midlands.
Not sure if your Suzuki has a torque converter automatic, CVT or AGS? Tell us the model and year and we will confirm it straight away.

The Suzuki owners who contact us about an automatic gearbox service tend to describe one of two scenarios. A Vitara or S-Cross owner who has noticed the automatic feels different at motorway speed compared to six months ago, a faint vibration that comes and goes. A Swift CVT owner whose car has started to rev more than it used to when accelerating from 30 mph, or a shudder on cold mornings that settles after a few minutes. Both are looking for a service, and in both cases the symptom they are describing is a fault that has already started to develop rather than maintenance that has been overlooked.
Service4Service Midlands carries out Suzuki automatic and CVT gearbox repair and reconditioning. Routine Suzuki vehicle servicing is not something we offer. Automatic gearbox repair is the entirety of what we do.
As part of every Suzuki automatic or CVT repair or rebuild, we carry out a full transmission or CVT fluid service using the correct specification for the unit fitted. On the Aisin 6-speed torque converter in the Vitara and S-Cross, correct ATF fluid specification directly affects torque converter lock-up clutch behaviour. On the Swift and Ignis CVT, the correct CVT fluid is critical to belt grip on the pulleys. Substituting a generic fluid on either unit leads to the same outcome over time: premature belt or torque converter wear, and the shudder and slip patterns we see when these vehicles arrive with us.
Call us with your Suzuki model, year and a description of what the gearbox is doing. In most cases we can give you a clear picture over the phone of whether the fault is pointing to a fluid issue, a component repair, or something that needs a full diagnostic first.
All of the above are covered as part of our diagnostic and repair process. If a fluid service resolves the fault, that is all we charge. If the diagnostic identifies something more involved, you get a fixed price before any repair starts.
Call 01922 666376Engine repairs run alongside our automatic gearbox work across the Midlands. Engine management lights, timing chain faults on 1.0 and 1.4 Boosterjet turbo engines, turbocharger issues, EGR faults on older diesel models and head gasket failures are all diagnosed and resolved well below main dealer rates.
We cover all Suzuki petrol and mild hybrid engines including the 1.0 Boosterjet turbocharged three-cylinder in the Vitara, S-Cross and Baleno; the 1.4 Boosterjet turbocharged four-cylinder in the Vitara S and S-Cross Sport; the 1.2 Dualjet petrol in the Swift and Ignis; and the 1.5 and 1.6 naturally aspirated petrol units in older SX4 and Grand Vitara models.

The questions Suzuki automatic owners across the Midlands ask us most often, answered plainly.
Suzuki fits three different self-shifting transmissions across its range, and they behave very differently. The 6-speed Aisin torque converter automatic in the Vitara and S-Cross is a conventional automatic with a fluid coupling and stepped gear changes. The CVT in the Swift and Ignis uses a steel push belt and variable diameter pulleys to provide a continuously variable drive ratio, giving the characteristic droning sound under acceleration. The Auto Gear Shift (AGS) fitted to some Celerio, Swift and Ignis variants is neither of these. It is a robotised manual gearbox, meaning a standard clutch and gearbox operated by an electronic actuator. AGS is not a conventional automatic or CVT and does not have the same fault patterns. If you are not sure which type your Suzuki has, the easiest way to tell is whether it has a conventional P-R-N-D selector layout. An AGS will typically show manual gear positions rather than a conventional automatic gate. Tell us your model and year and we will confirm it immediately.
Torque converter lock-up shudder at steady cruising speed is the most common Vitara and S-Cross automatic fault we see. It presents as a vibration at constant speed, typically between 45 and 65 mph, when the torque converter lock-up clutch engages. The cause on the Aisin 6-speed is almost always transmission fluid that has degraded past its friction modifier service life. When the fluid degrades, the lock-up clutch cannot engage consistently and produces the shudder. Physical clutch wear is the secondary cause on higher-mileage units. A full transmission fluid and filter service using the correct specification is the correct starting point. A diagnostic from £30 confirms whether the fluid alone is the cause or whether a component repair is also required.
High revs without a proportional increase in road speed on a Swift CVT is a classic sign of CVT belt slip. The steel push belt in the CVT transmits drive by gripping between the primary and secondary pulleys. When the CVT fluid degrades or when the belt or pulley surfaces wear, the belt loses grip under load and the engine speed rises without the road speed following. This is most noticeable when accelerating from below 40 mph or when climbing a gradient. At an early stage, a CVT fluid flush using the correct specification resolves the slip. Where belt or pulley wear is already established, belt and pulley replacement alongside a full fluid service is the correct repair. Do not continue driving a CVT that is slipping significantly. The heat generated by belt slip accelerates pulley surface damage and escalates the repair cost rapidly.
The cost depends on the transmission type and the specific fault. A CVT fluid flush is a different job from a belt and pulley replacement or a torque converter repair. Our pricing runs at up to 60% less than a Suzuki main dealer for the same standard of work using approved parts. Every job gets a fixed price before we start. The £30 diagnostic fee is deducted from the repair bill when you go ahead.
Call 01922 666376 with your Suzuki model, year and a description of what the gearbox is doing for an indicative cost before you commit.
In most cases, no. If the gearbox warning is active, the automatic is shuddering at speed, or the CVT is slipping noticeably under acceleration, stop driving it beyond what is strictly necessary. Torque converter faults worsen under continued use. CVT belt slip is particularly destructive if the car continues to be driven, as the heat generated by slipping belt friction material quickly damages the pulley faces. Vehicle recovery is available across the Midlands if your Suzuki cannot be safely driven.
No. Block Exemption legislation gives you the right to use any qualified independent specialist for Suzuki automatic gearbox repairs without voiding your manufacturer's warranty. Approved parts must be used and the technicians must be qualified. We meet both conditions on every job. This applies within the original Suzuki factory warranty period and under extended warranty plans. You are not required to use a Suzuki main dealer to maintain your warranty cover.
On Aisin 6-speed torque converter models including the Vitara and S-Cross, torque converter lock-up shudder at cruising speed caused by fluid degradation is the most frequent fault we diagnose. Delayed engagement on cold starts is the second most common pattern. On CVT models including the Swift and Ignis, belt slip under acceleration, where revs rise without a matching increase in speed, is the dominant fault pattern, consistently linked to CVT fluid that has been left too long or replaced with the wrong specification. CVT shudder from cold is a close second. On all Suzuki automatics and CVTs, a transmission fluid service at the correct interval using the correct specification is the most effective way to prevent the faults we see from developing in the first place.
