Ford introduced a quick-shifting eight-speed conventional automatic on multiple Mk4 petrol and diesel engines. Valve body, converter and hydraulic control replace the dual-clutch diagnostic route.
EcoBoost Hybrid Focus models gained a seven-speed dual-clutch PowerShift automatic. It is distinct from the earlier six-speed PowerShift and from the Focus ST seven-speed conventional automatic.
Focus gearbox faults can look similar from the driver's seat even though the transmission may be dual-clutch or torque-converter based.
Vibration when pulling away or during a shift can involve clutch engagement, torque-converter lock-up, adaptation or hydraulic control depending on the transmission fitted.
A pause after selecting gear can point towards clutch application, hydraulic pressure, mechatronic/valve-body operation or internal wear.

Focus codes should be interpreted according to six-speed PowerShift, eight-speed conventional automatic or seven-speed PowerShift. A generic DTC alone does not identify the failed part.

On an eight-speed or Focus ST conventional automatic, torque-converter/valve-body codes are more relevant than PowerShift actuator codes. Transmission identification comes first.
